On June 24, 2001, Barbara Roche’s only daughter was killed by a drunk driver with two previous DUI convictions against him. Christine Griffiths, 27, was struck by William Foley Jr.’s car in the breakdown lane of Interstate 93 north in Randolph, Massachusetts, after her friend pulled the car over, emergency flashers on, because Griffiths was feeling ill from a late-night meal at a pancake house.
RMV counsel Thomas Toomey II said that Griffiths was “thrown into the travel lanes” and pronounced dead at the scene. Griffiths’ daughter, Michaela, was only 17 months old when her mother was killed.
Foley, 47, had his driver’s license revoked for life by the Registry of Motor Vehicles following his conviction for the drunk-driving crash. Yesterday, he asked the court for his license back, claiming a hardship.
Beginning in 2002, he served 40 months of a four-year sentence. As a condition of his 10-year probation, he is supposed to be forbidden to drive by the courts until at least June
